ADECS³ - Automated Dock Evolution Control System

ADECS³
Automated Dock Evolution Control System, Rev 3

Software Component Modules - Brief Description

The Automated Dock Evolution Control System, Revision 3 (ADECS³) is a combination of three base modules, which can be used together or as individual components:

  • MDM: Multi-Axis Deflection Monitor
    • The The Multi-Axis Deflection Monitor provides detailed deflection readings from throughout the dock.
    • This provides standard wing-wall linear deflection, as well as transverse deflection, twist, linearity, and others.
  • RDM: Remote Direct Manual
    • The Remote Direct Manual module provides operators with a means to control each item (valve or pump) used on the dock for evolution control from touch screen consoles in the control room.
  • AAM: Attitude and Alarm Monitoring
    • The Attitude and Alarm Monitoring module provides information about the dock (List, Trim, Waterline Deflection) calculated from the draft readings.
    • It also provides Tank Level indication showing level (and volume) of the water in each ballast tank.
    • When expanded to it's fullest level, it provides valve and pump status for the evolution components, and when coupled with MDM provides a comparison between various information from different sources.
    • This module also adds detailed alarming, alarm logging, and operator level security.

The following optional advanced software/control room modules require some or all of the base modules:

  • AEC: Automatic Evolution Control
    • The Automated Evolution Control module provides one touch ballasting and deballasting by automatic adjustment of pumps and valves.
    • This handles List, Trim, Deflection, and Twist adjustments during the evolution
  • HDL: Historical Trending and Data Logging
    • The trending and data logging and data export module provides a means of reporting the status of the dock in a historical manner
    • Historical data is stored in a human readable format and is exported in a standardized format for use by any reporting or analysis software.

The following two modules are stand-alone, but are commonly used only on docks with the entire system:

  • RAX: Remote Auxiliary Control and Status
    • Provides operators in the control room access to systems and components of the dock that are not directly related to evolution control.
    • RAX Screens are a tertiary redundancy for all RDM screens, and RDM screens can access RAX windows.
    • An additional security option is provided for password access to RAX components for qualified operators and maintenance personnel
  • APS: Advanced Positioning System
    • The APS module graphically and numerically shows the position of the dock within a translation space.
    • Remote control of winches provides operators with the means of positioning the dock as desired.
    • When present, like the RAX system, another security setting is provided for winch qualified operators.

Hardware components in the control room can be configured in multiple manners as shown in the Control Room Configurations article.

Control components are commonly placed in distributed control panels on the safety or mezzanine decks of the dock. As described in the Distributed Control article here, these panels can have added capability as well.
