ADECS Components

The ADECS3 consists of the following three base software/control room modules which can be used together or as individual components:

  • MDM: Multi-Axis Deflection Monitor
    • The Multi-Axis Deflection Monitor provides detailed deflection readings from throughout the dock.
    • This provides standard wing-wall linear deflection, as well as transverse deflection, twist, linearity, and others.
  • RDM: Remote Direct Manual
    • The Remote Direct Manual module provides operators with a means to control each item (valve or pump) used on the dock for evolution control from touch screen consoles in the control room.
    • The RAX sub-module provides a similar type of control and monitoring for the Auxiliary systems. 
  • AAM: Attitude and Alarm Monitoring
    • The Attitude and Alarm Monitoring module provides information about the dock (List, Trim, Waterline Deflection) calculated from the draft readings.
    • It also provides Tank Level indication showing level (and volume) of the water in each ballast tank
    • When expanded to it's fullest level, it provides valve and pump status for the evolution components, and when coupled with MDM provides a comparison between various information from different sources.
    • This module also adds detailed alarming, alarm logging, and operator level security.

Additionally, the following optional advanced software/control room modules require some or all of the base modules:

  • AEC: Automated Evolution Control
    • The Automated Evolution Control module provides one touch ballasting and deballasting by automatic adjustment of pumps and valves.
    • This handles List, Trim, Deflection, and Twist adjustments during the evolution
  • HDL: Historical trending and Data Log Export
    • The trending and data logging and data export module provides a means of reporting the status of the dock in a historical manner
    • Historical data is stored in a human readable format and is exported in a standardized format for use by any reporting or analysis software.

Additional control components are commonly placed in distributed control panels on the safety decks of the dock. As described in the Distributed Control article here, these panels can have added capability as well.
